The onset of spring is the perfect time to channel that wonderful, seasonal energy into meaningful changes for your life and home. We’re going to explore self-care and home refresh tips for Spring to help you make the most of the year ahead.
First things first, gather your favorite pen, tablet, colored markers, and stickers—no judging! These tools will help you visualize and organize your thoughts as you plan for the rest of the year.
Start by reflecting on what brings you energy and what drains it. Write down your answers to these questions:
What about my life gives me the most energy?
Family
Work
Physical fitness
Environment
Spirituality
Finances
What in my life drags me down?
Family
Work
Physical fitness
Environment
Lack of spirituality
Personal finances
It usually feels good just writing them down.
Which of the energy drainers, if any, are you willing and able to improve this year?
The first step in addressing any energy drainer is scheduling time in your calendar to identify solutions.
Write down in your calendar, a date and time in the next 3-7 days (I like 1:00 pm on Sundays, Mondays and Fridays) to decide on the solution.
You won’t actually implement anything yet. You’re only identifying the solutions.
Once you’ve decided, now you will schedule the date and time to implement it.
The date will vary greatly depending on the energy drainer, the cost of the solution, the time it will take to complete it, etc. Again, I like Sundays, Mondays and Fridays.
Step 1: Identify Solutions
Use your scheduled time to think of solutions for each energy drainer.
Step 2: Schedule Implementation
Once you’ve decided on solutions, schedule the dates and times to implement them. This will vary based on the nature of the energy drainer, the cost of the solution, and the time required to complete it.
If your home is one of the energy drainers, now’s the time to refresh it.
Here are some tips to create a relaxing and rejuvenating environment.
In the living room, invest in oversized sofas or armchairs that invite you to relax and unwind. Consider adding extra throw pillows for added comfort.
Use a combination of floor lamps, table lamps, and wall sconces to create a warm and inviting glow, avoiding harsh overhead lighting.
Keep cozy throws and blankets within reach, choosing soft, luxurious fabrics that add warmth and texture to the space.
Incorporate plants and flowers to bring a touch of nature indoors, enhancing both the aesthetic and air quality for a calming atmosphere. Display personal items such as family photos, mementos, or artwork that bring you joy and comfort.
Keep the living room tidy and clutter-free, using decorative storage solutions like baskets and trays to organize items. Use essential oil diffusers or scented candles with calming scents like lavender or eucalyptus to create a relaxing ambiance.
In the bedroom, use calming colors like soft blues, greens, or neutrals to create a serene atmosphere.
Invest in quality bedding, including comfortable mattresses, pillows, and sheets that encourage restful sleep.
Blackout curtains are great for blocking out any light that might disturb your sleep, helping to create a dark and peaceful environment.
Keep the bedroom tidy and clutter-free by using storage solutions like under-bed bins, drawers, and closet and closet door organizers.
Add personal touches such as family photos or artwork that make you feel relaxed and happy.
Lastly, ensure good air quality by adding a good air filtration system, regularly airing out the room and adding a few indoor plants.
Create a dedicated space with a comfortable chair that supports good posture, ensuring you can read for extended periods without discomfort.
Good lighting is essential, so opt for a combination of natural light from a nearby window and a quality reading lamp.
Add candles, a cozy throw and a nearby basket for your favorite books. I love hardbound books and use them interchangeably with my tablet.
Lastly, ensure the area has a beautiful, peaceful view of the outdoors. I love being able to open my windows on all but the most inclement days.
Find a quiet spot in your home.
Use floor cushions or a meditation bench for comfortable seating or add a soft rug for warmth.
Opt for calming decor like soft fabrics, natural materials, plants and baskets.
Use soft, ambient lighting.
Add candles or dimmable lamps.
Incorporate aromatherapy with essential oil diffusers using scents like lavender or sandalwood.
Personalize the space with useful items that have meaning in your life.
Keep the area tidy and clutter-free to maintain a sense of calm.
These steps are a great way to get your life on track and make the most of the year ahead! Remember, it’s still early in the year at the time of this writing and there’s plenty of time to achieve your goals.
