Take Charge of Your Own Health

Taking charge of your health has never been more important—and will only become more essential in the years ahead. With so much misinformation online it’s important to take charge of your health, choose the right doctor and be your own advocate. Investing in the right books and programs must be a lifelong mission for anyone committed to staying healthy.

If traditional health research feels dry or uninteresting, consider a structured wellness program designed to make learning simple and engaging.

The 7-Day Wellness Challenge covers the fundamentals of wellness, daily routines, and medical advocacy in just 15 minutes a day, over a seven day period—so you can make smarter choices for your health.

Be Your Own Advocate

I was diagnosed with osteopenia, osteoarthritis and scoliosis early in life.

My doctor wanted to put me on bone builders and painkillers, but I knew I needed to take charge of my health. Instead of accepting a prescription without question, I researched books, programs, and holistic approaches that aligned with my beliefs.

Once I developed a plan grounded in holistic principles, I felt empowered to take control of my own health.

How I Took Charge of My Health

  • Declined the prescriptions (which is now known to be the best option)

  • Adopted a partially raw, plant-based diet and began green juicing

  • Found a holistic specialist and scheduled phone consultations

  • Started an all-natural (no synthetics) supplement called Bone Renewal

  • Began systemic/proteolytic enzymes to reduce inflammation and keep joints free of adhesions

The 40s, 50s, and beyond are crucial years for women’s health. Empowering yourself with books and wellness programs focused on preventative care and lifestyle changes can make a lifetime of difference.

This is just one example of how being informed and proactive can shape your health for the better.

I Refused Statins

Another advocacy story. My triglyceride count had risen to 400, and my well-meaning doctor urged me to begin statins immediately. I said, wait. Let’s talk lifestyle changes first before resorting to medication.

She told me, “You can try cutting back on sugar and taking 2,000 mg of wild salmon oil, but it won’t work.” On my follow-up visit, she was shocked when my triglyceride count had dropped to 87—without medication.

This is the power of being proactive, advocacy, and making informed health decisions.

Lifestyle Changes vs. Prescriptions

If there’s one takeaway from today, let it be this:

  • Find an excellent holistic or integrative health care professional and tell them you want to focus on lifestyle improvements.

  • Communicate openly—let them know you want to prioritize wellness and eliminate non-life sustaining prescriptions.

  • Educate yourself continuously—invest in books, affordable wellness programs, and trusted resources to make informed choices.

Advocating for yourself means asking the right questions, staying informed, and taking an active role in your medical decisions.

Choose the Right Doctor: Conventional MDs vs. Holistic and Integrative MDs

A conventional MD—one trained in Western medicine—may dismiss holistic approaches, but that doesn’t mean holistic medicine is ineffective. Many people—including my family—are turning to holistic and integrative doctors.

Even conventional MDs are starting to shift their approach, incorporating preventative and lifestyle-focused care into their practices.

Keep in mind doctors genuinely want to help, but most U.S. MDs are primarily focused on pharmaceuticals as treatment instead of lifestyle changes. They often don’t have the time to stay abreast of the latest findings.

What Holistic and Integrative Doctors Do Differently

Instead of simply prescribing medications, holistic MDs prioritize:

  • Nutrition – Using food as medicine

  • Stress management – Addressing emotional health and its effects on the body

  • Movement – Encouraging fitness approaches tailored to individual needs

  • Sleep – Recognizing proper rest as a foundation for healing

  • Eliminating environmental toxins – Helping patients reduce exposure to harmful chemicals

The proof is in the results—America’s ongoing health struggles show that the traditional approach isn’t working.

How to Find a Doctor Who Supports Your Health Goals

Choosing the right doctor takes research and discernment. Here’s how to make sure you find the best fit:

  • Look for board-certified functional or integrative medicine doctors through trusted organizations.

  • Use directories that specialize in holistic and integrative care.

  • Ask for recommendations from nutritionists, wellness coaches, and experienced health professionals.

  • Find doctors trained in both integrative and holistic medicine.

Knowing how to advocate for yourself and choose the right doctor will allow you to make medical choices that support long-term wellness.

The Power of Lifestyle Changes

There are lifestyle changes available for almost every chronic illness—but too many people aren’t aware of them. That’s why it’s critical to educate yourself through books, wellness programs, and research-based resources.

If you think you can’t make significant health changes, you may be underestimating your body’s ability to heal. Your body is designed to regenerate and fight chronic illness through fasting, eating optimally, fasting and sleep— give it the right tools and you’ll be amazed how quickly your health turns around!
