I’ve recently been collecting sources and images for a mid-century modern, residential project I’m working on. The challenge in this one (and there’s always a challenge isn’t there?) is to add warmth to the characteristically cool decor scheme.

I’m using the image board to “inform” my eye of the style and all it’s modern day variations. The room above with the russet velvet barrel chairs is a stunning example of  mid-century used alongside furnishings from other eras.

This tufted chair has a distinctly retro influence and would be perfect for a small living room. The fact that it has no skirt is even better. Chairs and sofas without skirts lend themselves beautifully to small spaces because they allow light to travel underneath them.

No one does mid-century modern like Steven Gambrel. He knows exactly how to mix the style up with warm, modern day elements like wood and textiles.

The Satellite ceiling fixture above is a stunner, but five figure chandeliers are not in the budget. I find it’s appearance inspiring nonetheless.

This tufted, wood framed sofa covered in teal velvet with coral plaid chair, pillows and ottoman is decidedly English Country but I’m wondering how the colors would translate to a Mid-Century mix. Hmm.

This olive green and celadon velvet daybed is not mid-century either but again, I find the colors most inspiring.

I will keep you posted as the project progresses.
