Creating Exercise Spaces in the Home

joy of nesting

I’ve had gym memberships most of my life but working out from home has been hands down the biggest key to my consistency.

Gyms are great too. But the option of not having to drive somewhere or do my hair to workout ensures I exercise 5 to 6 days a week.

The places you choose in your home to exercise is a key to your consistency too. That’s why creating exercise spaces in the home can be a great solution. You can exercise whenever you want, without worrying about traffic, parking, fees, or crowds. Plus, you can customize your space to suit your preferences and needs.

Here are some tips on how to create exercise spaces in the home that inspire you.

Exercising by Window with Views

One of the benefits of exercising at home is that you can choose where to do it. If you have windows with pretty views, why not take advantage of them?

Exercising by windows can give you a sense of connection with nature, which can boost your mood and energy levels. You can also enjoy the changing seasons, the weather, and the sunlight.

Studies show that exposure to natural light can improve your circadian rhythm, sleep quality, and mental health.

To create an exercise space by windows, you will need some basic equipment, such as a yoga mat, dumbbells, resistance bands, or a skipping rope. You can also use a wall for support.

Make sure you have enough space to move around and avoid any obstacles or hazards.

At Home Exercising Can Energize and Inspire You

If there are certain rooms that energize and inspire you more than others, use them for exercising. Think outside the box of usual culprits. Unless you live alone, the family room where everyone hangs is not the place for consistent workouts because there will be too many interruptions.

You can use your formal living room, den, patio or your balcony. The key is to find a space that makes you feel comfortable, happy, and motivated. If the space is decorated to your preferences, all better.

To create an exercise space in your home, consider the type of exercise you want to do and the equipment you need. If you want to do cardio, having a treadmill or a stationary bike in a convenient, out of the way location like the guest room is ideal.

For strength training such as hand weights, kettlebells, or bodyweight exercises, though it’s not usually inspiring, one half of the garage can be an option.

But for yoga, Pilates, or stretching, mats, a ball, foam roller and Pilates ‘bands’ are easily tucked away. There are a lot of online videos, apps, or podcasts to guide you through these types of workouts.

I actually have my hand weights in the floor of the hall closet and lighter equipment in the spare room closet. My rebounder, stability ball and stay bike are currently in the guest room.
