Taking excellent care of yourself means knowing what your body and emotions need and then providing them consistently throughout the year. With 2024 looming large, start getting ready now for a new year and new you!
Here are the many benefits of eating optimally, exercising consistently, taking care of your mental and emotional health, and getting plenty sleep and downtime.
Since I’ve been doing daily green juicing and big lunch salads I’ve noticed a big shift in my cognitive abilities, memory, focus, and creativity.
You can boost your brain power by eating a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and avoiding alcohol. I never sleep well when I drink. And it wreaks havoc with osteoarthritis.
Engaging in mentally stimulating activities, learning new skills, reading, playing games, meditating, and staying socially connected are the other key. For me, that’s been playing 3 to 5 hours of chess a week, and learning new computer skills every year.
Stress, anxiety, depression, and mood swings are managed beautifully when you’re taking care of yourself. Diet and exercise can help with this but don’t shy away from getting support when you need it. When my late husband Jim died, talk therapy with a licensed MFCC helped me tremendously.
Expressing your feelings, seeking support, practicing gratitude, and finding joy in the things you love. These are a huge help in keeping a happy outlook.
Taking excellent care of your physical health can help you prevent or reduce pain caused by injuries, arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, and other conditions.
You can do this by eating a plant-based diet, green juicing, strengthening your muscles and bones with weight bearing exercises, stretching your joints and ligaments. Eating right and exercising consistently has kept me off dangerous pain killers and bone builders.
Cutting edge arthritis specialists are now saying diet and exercise are a much better route than prescription drugs.
You can also manage your pain by avoiding pain with fasting and eating an anti-inflammatory diet. Fasting has been a huge game changer for me during a flare up.
In fact, it’s the only thing that works for me 100% of the time.
Trigger alert. Taking care of your skin doesn’t come in a jar. The biggest needle mover in skin health is what you eat and drink. Lots of leafy greens, filtered water, raw veggies, fresh fruits and home juiced greens: these are the keys to beautiful skin.
You can supplement your diet with high quality supplements but really, if you’re doing green juices and lots of salads you don’t need a ton of them. Vegan or meat eater, we all need B12 and D3 supplements.
I also love skin regenerating tools and techniques which I go over my download, The 5 Most Effective Facial Tools & Techniques which is a bonus in an online program I offer at the bottom of the page.
Looking and Feeling Your Best
Taking care of your overall health can help you look and feel your best and boost your confidence and self-esteem. Smiling, getting out in nature, being part of your community, being positive, and expressing your true self are potent formulas to a life well lived!
We all want to live longer and healthier and enjoy life to the fullest. What helps me is a plant-based diet, exercising regularly, avoiding alcohol and staying hydrated.
Staying mentally and socially active, having a purpose, and being happy and optimistic require some effort but it’s so worth it!
Energy begets energy. Yes, sleep and downtime are important, but you won’t feel energized if you don’t balance it out with consistent exercise.
When I have flare ups, it’s so hard to do my workouts. And I’m one of those people who love exercise! My rebounder, yoga practice, stay bike and OG Jane Fonda Workouts have stood the test of time!
Choose something that’s effective and that you can be consistent at. I’m also loving wall Pilates and have been eyeing Jennifer Aniston’s P-Volve workout equipment for 2024.
A strong immune system helps you prevent infections and illnesses. Eat foods that boost your immune system, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and spices. You can also strengthen your immune system by reducing stress, getting enough sleep, and taking high quality supplements.
Taking excellent care of yourself has so many benefits. Improve your quality of life and enhance your well-being. A new year, a new you!
